Geneva, Switzerland - The EBU has announced several events in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest, including a special concert to be staged by the BBC on the 31st of March.
A very special conference will be held on the 24th of April, called the Eurovision Song Contest: 60th Anniversary Conference at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in London.
The EBU event will explore the impact the Song Contest has had on the European public sphere over the last six decades. Academics who have studied the power of the Song Contest, together with commentators and past performers will examine how the contest has been used as a platform of expression for diverse communities, to create national and European identities and as a tool for nation branding.
Austrian winner, Conchita Wurst, will be present to describe how her life has changed since winning the Contest.
"The EBU is immensely proud of the Eurovision Song Contest and the impact it has had in the last 60 years,” said EBU Director General Ingrid Deltenre. “This is truly an event that builds bridges between nations and encapsulates the values of Public Service Media. In this anniversary year it is with pride that we look back at how the contest has influenced the public sphere in Europe and look forward to the event remaining a huge part of the European cultural landscape for many more years to come.”
Video Vignettes & microsite
In addition to the conference, the EBU is also producing, in collaboration with the Swiss Member SSR SRG, a series of video vignettes entitled Eurovision Milestones that will look at key moments in the 60-year history of the Song Contest including the four-way tie of 1969, the expansion of the contest to Eastern Europe in the 1990s and the introduction of Semi-Finals in 2004. The vignettes are being made available to EBU Members for broadcast around the Vienna competition in May.
In addition, a special microsite detailing the history of the world’s biggest musical competition year-by-year will soon be launching at 60th.eurovision.tv.

London, United Kingdom - As part of the EBU’s celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest, the BBC will be hosting a special event showcasing some of the very best songs from the competition in Eurovision Song Contest's Greatest Hits.
London’s Eventim Apollo Hammersmith will be the venue for this special anniversary on the 31st of March, which will feature an array of classic and contemporary acts, as well as some surprise guests from throughout the contest’s colourful 60 year history.
Jon Ola Sand, the EBU's Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest says: “Over the last 60 years, the Eurovision Song Contest has become a true European institution that has led the way in TV entertainment. We are delighted that the BBC is launching our diamond jubilee celebrations with this special event and that TV viewers from across Europe and beyond will also get to enjoy it too.”

Tickets to attend Eurovision Song Contest's Greatest Hits, which will be recorded on the 31st of March, will be available to purchase at 11.15 (CET) on the 6th of February from Eurovision.tv (international sales) and the BBC’s Eurovision website (UK sales)
The show will be broadcast over Easter and beyond in Australia (SBS), Austria (ORF), Belgium (VRT & RTBF), Bulgaria (BNT), Denmark (DR), Finland (YLE), France (France 2), Greece (NERIT), Iceland (RÚV), Ireland (RTÉ), Israel (IBA), Norway (NRK), Portugal (RTP), Romania (TVR), Russia (C1R), San Marino (SMRTV), Slovenia (RTVSLO), Sweden (SVT), Switzerland (SRF), Spain (RTVE) and the United Kingdom (BBC).
Eurovision Song Contest's Greatest Hits will be Executive Produced by Guy Freeman and directed by Geoff Posner.

First acts confirmed
Confirmed to take part is the reigning champion Conchita Wurst who will perform her winning song Rise Like A Phoenix. Also appearing are the Swedish group The Herreys, who won in 1984 with Diggi-Loo, Diggi-Ley and completing the first three confirmed acts is Natasha St-Pier, who represented France in 2001 with Je N'ai Que Mon Âme. More acts will be announced in the coming days.
Familiar Hosts
The BBC’s Eurovision commentator, Graham Norton, along with the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest host, Petra Mede, will co-host the show.
Graham Norton says: “I love Eurovision and am honoured to be co-hosting this special show. I cannot think of a better way to celebrate 60 years of the greatest song contest in the world!”
Petra Mede says: "I am so looking forward to participating in this concert, this true celebration of a contest that has been a part of, not only my, but so many people´s lives. And it is an honour to co-host the show with Graham, who is fast becoming a Eurovision legend himself."
